The brief
Spearheaded by OMEN – HP’s gaming brand – and the leading tech company Intel, the first-ever virtual livestream tournament of a skateboarding video game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, was hosted at PAX Online in September 2020. PAX Online is a nine-day online event with non-stop streams of gaming and esports actions running 24 hours a day.
Insight
Positioning as a hub of gaming culture and community, PAX Online gathered young gaming enthusiasts for new trends and interaction. For OMEN, the event provided an excellent platform to promote its new wireless gaming peripherals to their target audience. The virtual, livestream format also provided an avenue for the brand to reach viewers from around the world.
Solution
Infinity Marketing Team provided virtual event management support for the programme, including creative, production and editing. Kicking off on 15 September 2020 when viewers were greeted with an exclusive music performance by a former American Idol contestant, Remi Wolf. The virtual tournament featured eight of the top players from the Tony Hawk Pro Skater gaming community. Contestants geared up to battle it out across five rounds for a chance to compete within the final championship round hosted live by Tony Hawk and renowned skateboarding photographer, Atiba Jefferson.
The tournament winner was not only awarded a grand prize consisting of Tony Hawk-signed skate deck and a full OMEN by HP desktop setup, but was also granted to choose a charity to receive a donation of eight full computer setups.
Results
Crowd and media response to the livestream event exceeded OMEN’s expectations:

- 130 pieces of coverage are captured from media such as HYPEBEAST, SHACKNEWS, Pure PlayStation and more
